- 1 pkg dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups warm water
- 8 cups flour
- Melted butter to brush on cooking rolls
Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Cream shortening and sugar, and add beaten egg, water, salt and yeast slurry. Add about 4 cups flour and mix well. Pour dough into remainder flour on dough board and knead in flour. Put in large greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size. Work into rolls. Let rise again. Bake at 400 degrees. When rolls begin to brown, brush with melted butter and cook till perfectly brown.
